As humans, we crave intimacy and meaningful connection. Each of us have a fundamental desire to be loved completely as we are. When someone sees into our heart; sees the good and the bad and still chooses to love us, we feel accepted and valued.
Our Father knows us intimately, more than any other, including ourselves. He looks down from His dwelling place and sees all who live on the earth- He who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. His eyes are on those who fear Him and hope in His unfailing love (Psalm 33). He has searched our heart and knows when we sit and rise, He knows our thoughts and words before we even speak. He knit us together before we were born and numbers the hairs on our head (Psalm 139, Luke 12 verse 7). For we are the clay and He is the potter; we are all His workmanship (Isaiah 64 verse 8).
Yes, the same God who created the sun, moon and stars, the oceans and mountains, every wonder on earth and in heaven, created YOU. He knows you, and longs for you to search for and know Him. In Isaiah 57 verses 15 and 18, He says “I live in a high and lofty place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and heart of the contrite. I have seen [man’s] ways, but will heal him, I will guide him and restore comfort to him”. How mind-blowing! Our LORD knows our ways, knows every sinful thought and yet that is His response. As David said in Psalm 8: “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? How majestic is your name in all the earth!”
Although created with a wonderful and extraordinary capacity to love, it is impossible for us to comprehend a love that is everlasting. A love that is so deep and perfect, it never ceases; its mercies never come to an end but are new every morning (Lamentations 3 verses 22 and 23).
Our Father’s love for us is not about who we are, but about who He is. See, we have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Isaiah 43 verse 25). But God demonstrated His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, He sent His only Son into the world as an atoning sacrifice that we might live through him (Romans 5 verse 8, 1 John 4 verses 9 and 10). Our Father tells us in Isaiah 43 verse 25 that He blots out our transgressions and does not remember our sins if we call upon Him in repentance. He has given us a hope, not because of the righteous things we have done, but because of his great mercy (Titus 3 verses 4 and 5).
How grateful we should be for the character of God! His love is everlasting and unchanging. It is not lessened by our failings. Imagine if it was… So, let us give thanks and praise Him who fully knows us, is familiar with all our ways and yet loves us with an incomprehensible, perfect love.
