Trust in all seasons

Sunset over jetty

Faith is built on trusting God, even when we do not understand His plan. When Proverbs 5 verse 6 tells us not to lean upon our own understanding, we must heed this. Our heart is often deceitful, our emotions fluctuate and we cannot see the big picture. God never lies, God never changes, God knows all.

If we ask God to guide our path, we should not be surprised when He leads us to make sacrifices or navigate through difficult situations or seasons. It is when we cannot see that we cling closer to Him. He does not ask or want us to work out our own way. Not once in the Bible are we told to worry, stress or figure something out. But, over and over again we are reminded to trust God and choose to follow His way. This does not mean that we should cast our emotions away or push them down. Feel what you need to feel and then lay it down before God in prayer; let it go, do not let it consume you. When God is leading us, the path we are traveling will bring us closer to Him.

Remember that not every season is for growth, not every season is for harvest. There are seasons of watering, planting, pulling up weeds and fertilising the ground. Every season is an essential part of the process. Faith and patient endurance are needed throughout. Even if you have to wait a little or a lot longer than expected and even if the process is harder than you could have imagined, do not give up trusting and waiting to see what our Father has in store. Continue praying and reading his Word. Trust that He will and is leading your paths straight. Remind yourself that “God understands the cries of our heart, even when they’re too deep for words” (Romans 8 verse 26).

Meditate on the words of Psalm 27 verses 13 and 14: “I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD… Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD”. What an incredible comfort to know that even in the midst of uncertain circumstances, we can rest in the one who has complete control.
